Belt Lipectomy / Lower Body Lift
After a significant weight loss of a 100 pounds or more it is common to have excess loose or sagging skin around the lower torso and upper legs. A belt lipectomy is a surgical procedure that will reshape the areas of the lower body including the abdomen, waist, inner/outer thighs, buttock, and/or hips.
This procedure will restore the elasticity of the skin and transform the body back to its natural contours. In some cases liposuction may be used to remove excess fat to enhance the overall appearance of the body. Incisions may be made around the waistline, bikini area, creases of the buttocks, lower back, or other areas that can be covered by an undergarment. The length of the incision will be based on the amount of treatment needed. For this procedure patients will undergo general anesthesia. This surgical procedure may take anywhere between 3 to 5 hours to complete.
Areas of Use
A belt lipectomy is designed to remove any excess sagging or loose skin from the lower body. This procedure will reshape and improve the overall appearance of the lower body restoring the natural contours.
Expected Recovery from a Lower Body Lift
After a belt lipectomy it may take 1 to 2 weeks before a patient can return to their regular daily activities. It may take 6 to 8 weeks before a patient can return to strenuous activity; such as running or lifting weights. Patients may experience some swelling and a moderate amount of pain during the healing process. The pain will be controlled with oral medications. The stitches typically used are designed to dissolve within 1 to 2 weeks after the surgery and do not require removal.
Duration of Effect
The results of a belt lipectomy procedure may last forever. However results may vary depending on the patient’s skin type and texture. It is important for patients to keep an active lifestyle including a diet and exercise regimen to maintain shape and figure.
