Botox / Dysport®

Botox | Suria Plastic Surgery FLWhat is Botox®?

Botox Cosmetic is approved by the FDA for the treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Botox is a paralytic medication that blocks the nerve transmissions to the muscles.

How does Botox work?

Botox reduces the muscle activity that causes wrinkles of the face. After treatments, the muscles relax and the overlying skin becomes smooth and unwrinkled. Botox treatments soften the appearance of wrinkles, producing a natural youthful contour of the face. A topical cream can be used to minimize pain and discomfort before and after the treatment.

what is Dysport®?

Dysport is also approved by the FDA for the treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Dysport can be used as an alternative to Botox treatments. Like Botox, Dysport is a minimally invasive treatment that blocks the nerve transmissions to the muscles of the face. This will reduce the muscle activity that causes wrinkles of the face.

Common areas of use

Botox and Dysport are used to treat moderate to severe wrinkles in the upper portions of the face, such as:

  • Glabella (low forehead between the eye brows)
  • Crow’s feet (lines at the outside corners of the eyes)
  • Forehead (from the brow line to hair line)

In some cases Botox and Dysport can treat:

  • Smoker’s lines
  • Corners of the mouth
  • Vertical neck bands.

Expected Recovery

Any treatment using Botox or Dysport is minimally invasive and essentially has no down time. Some patients may experience some swelling at the injection site and very minor bruising; this may last 7 to 10 days. Botox treatments do not produce immediate results; it may take 4-5 days before a treatment becomes effective. Dysport treatments do not produce immediate results either; it may take 2 to 4 days before treatment becomes effective. In some cases it can take up to 2 weeks to achieve the maximal treatment results of either treatment.

How Long do Results last?

The results of a Botox or Dysport treatment may last anywhere from 3 to 4 months. However, results may vary depending on the injection site and the patient’s skin type. In some cases patients have reported the treatment is effective up to 6 months. The product can last longer if treatments are done in sessions.
