Facelift
What is a Facelift?
A facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure designed to firm and even the skin, producing a youthful, natural appearance. As we age, our skin will suffer from sun damage, causing it to lose elasticity and volume in our face. This can lead to sagging and unwanted wrinkles around the lower face and neck. With facelift surgery, these signs of aging and sagging can be corrected.
What Can A Facelift Improve?
A facelift can improve the following areas:
- Lower face and neck
- The jawline
If you are looking to reverse signs of aging, a facelift at Suria Plastic Surgery might be the right procedure for you.
Mini-Facelift
A mini-facelift is a type of facelift that is only performed on the lower third of the face. It addresses wrinkles and sagging in this area and will restore definition to the chin by removing excess tissue and tightening the remaining skin. A mini-facelift is a great option for someone who wants more significant and longer-lasting results than facial fillers, but a less invasive surgery than a regular facelift.
The Facelift Procedure
The facelift procedure may take anywhere from 2 to 5 hours to complete. For this procedure, patients will undergo a twilight anesthesia, which is an IV sedation anesthesia in addition to a local anesthetic. The facelift is done by repositioning and removal of excess skin while also tightening the muscles underneath the skin. In order to provide the face with a natural fullness, the volume of the face will be repositioned and restored during this process. This will eliminate the following problems while restoring the jawline and youthful contours of the skin.
- Deep necklines
- Wrinkles
- Sagging of the skin
Different incision techniques may be used for this procedure based on the degree of correction needed. Incisions may be placed in front of, behind, alongside the ear or around the hairline to minimize the appearance of scars.
Can a Facelift be combined with any other procedure?
Other facial rejuvenation treatments are often used in conjunction with the facelift (Rhytidectomy) to help enhance the overall results. These can include injectable treatments to add more volume to the face and/or laser resurfacing to improve the skin’s texture, quality and pigment. Facelifts are not designed to correct any aging around the eyes, brow, or forehead. These areas must be addressed separately; however, the procedure can be done at the same time or at a different time.
Facelift Surgery Recovery
After a facelift procedure, it will take 7 to 10 days before a patient can return to their regular daily activities. In some cases, it may take up to 6 weeks before a patient can return to strenuous activity, such as running or lifting weights. Patients may experience some swelling, bruising, and a moderate amount of pain during the healing process. This pain will be controlled with oral medications.
