Rhinoplasty / Nose Job
What is a Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty also known as “nose job” or “nose reshaping,” rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that will reshape the internal and external structures of the nose to create a more desirable look.
Benefits of Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)
Rhinoplasty is not only performed for cosmetic reasons, it is also done to help correct birth defects or injury such as a broken nose.
For a patient with sinusitis, nose surgery is sometimes performed in conjunction with sinus surgery. For a patient with a deviated septum, it is often performed along with septoplasty. In such cases, rhinoplasty effectively treats health and breathing problems.
Who is a Candidate for a Nose Job?
Some patients may be interested in a Nose Job for cosmetic reasons, such as an overly large nose, the nose isn’t propionate to the face, the nose is damaged from an accident or injury, Roman nose, pinched nose, hooked nose, or crooked nose.
Other patients may be interested in a rhinoplasty for functional reasons, such as breathing problems, sleeping problems, repeated infections or to treat nasal deformities caused at birth.
Rhinoplasty Procedure
Every rhinoplasty is customized to the patient’s facial features, needs, and desires. Different incision techniques may be used during this procedure, such as endonasal (incisions are positioned inside the nose) or open approach (small incisions on the outside of the nose that will heal without scarring). To minimize any discomfort during the procedure patients will undergo general anesthesia. This surgical procedure may take anywhere between 2 to 6 hours to complete.
What Is a Complex Nasal Reconstruction?
A complex nasal reconstruction is a surgical procedure that will correct the defects and deformities of the nose. Every complex nasal reconstruction is different; depending on the severity of treatment needed it may require a total nasal reconstruction.
What Is a Nasal Reconstruction Procedure Like?
In some cases, it may require multiple stages of tissue harvesting from other areas of the body, including cartilage, bone, fascia, and skin. To help minimize the appearance of scarring it may be necessary to also use ancillary maneuvers, such as lasers, dermabrasion, and facial fillers. Our physicians recognize the complexity of the nose and understand the importance of the nasal appearance.
Nose Job Recovery
After a rhinoplasty, it will take 7 to 10 days before a patient may return to their normal daily routine. There will be dressings and splints on the inside and outside of the nose for about a week.
While swelling subsides within a few weeks, it may take up to a year for your new nasal contour to fully refine. You may notice gradual changes in the appearance of your nose as it refines to a more permanent outcome.
How long will the results of my nose job last?
The results of a rhinoplasty may last forever. However, results may vary depending on the patient’s skin type and texture. A follow up with a physician and the surgeon should be done yearly.
Will I Have a Scar After Nose Surgery?
The only scar for a rhinoplasty is at the base of the nose which heals well enough that it is not noticeable in an open technique. Either way, there are long-term issues with nasal scars from a rhinoplasty.
Can I Get a Nose Surgery Revision?
In some instances, a revision rhinoplasty procedure may be necessary if a complication arises from the original surgery. You may also get a revision if a previous rhinoplasty was done improperly.
